Although famous for its lions, Tsavo is a fabulous leopard destination where the vast size of the reserve and its wilderness aspect make for true immersion experience in the African wild.

The lions of Tsavo have become the stuff of legend, but I’ll always remember it as a first-rate leopard park. In Tsavo, leopard territories are among the smallest in Africa, with one leopard for every 5.6 square kilometres. That means leopard sightings are common, particularly in Ngulia Valley in Tsavo West. It was here that I saw my first leopard, feeding on a dik dik in the fork of a branch right next to the track. But my second leopard sighting, not far away, still ranks as my most memorable leopard experience. Draped along a long horizontal branch just above a line of bushes, here was the leopard of legend – afraid of nothing, posing in full view of the world, and supremely beautiful.

Tsavo west national park is a dry and semi arid desert,There are many tourist attractions at Tsavo West National Park, from safari tours to see the red-skinned elephants, to birdwatching and hill hiking, to caving and boating. There are many Kenyan animals in the park, including elephants, African lions, hippos, cheetahs, hartebeest and buffalo.
