5 days mountkenya hike starting the trek through sirimon route ascent and descent down to chogoria route completes your hiking holiday in mtkenya,this climbing routes have magnificent views,scenic views such as valleys,flowers,volcanic peaks,and mountkenya forest animals,makes you feel like you are on a hiking animal viewing safari,the forest are ever green canopy trees,diferent species of trees found in mountkenya are,hagenia trees,meru oak trees and cedar trees, which are over fifty years old,with dead decaying plants such as lichens and mosses.

the similarity of both sirimon and chogoria route is that both route are very beautiful,both have trekking valleys at the altitude from 3700m.chogoria route have gorges valley and sirimon route has mackinders valley.

  • the best climbing season is from january to march and june to october but can be climbed all year around.

DAY 1:Nairobi-Nanyuki -Sirimon gate to Judmaier camp altitude 2650m-3300m  9km walk

The 9km gradual climb starts from sirimon gate of mtkenya to oldmoses camp,whereby our driving time from nairobi to nanyuki will be 3-4 hours,the hike is through beautiful forest  covered with East African Pencil Cedar trees, Poducarpus trees and the giant Hygenia trees to oldmoses camp,where plenty of animals like the rock hyrax,elephants,bufalloes,baboons may be seen,similary on a clear day you may see the summits of mtkenya,batian and nelion.

Day 2 :Old Moses (Judmaier) camp to Shiptons camp altitude 3300-4200m distance 13km

The hike starts very early in the morning and takes about 6-7 hours to the base camp on the northern side of mtkenya,one has to walk through the Likii junction and Mackinders valley on the altitude from 3700m, there is a great massive view of Terere and Sendeo peaks. And the rear great view of Nanyuki town and beautiful terrain. Shipton’s camp has also an excellent upward setting of the north faces of Nelion peak and Batian peak.the distance from oldmoses camp to shiptons camp is 13kms.in order to beat up with the weather picnic lunch is provided on the way.

Day 3: Shipton’s Camp to Point lenana summit altitude 4200m-3300m 9km walk
early morning departure at 3:00 oclock leave the Shipton’s camp to Point Lenana traversing through the soft stone screes,with the headlights,on a lucky day the moon light is bright with very beautiful stars above the sky,the trekk takes 3 hours to reach to the summit for the sunrise and on a lucky day you will be able to see mt kilimanjaro on the south, and then descend to Mintos Camp for full breakfast.after an hour break rest walk further to road head camp 3300m.9km walk for lunch break and overnight sleep at 3300m

Day 4 road head camp 3300m to meru mountkenya camp 2970m-7 km walk
Early morning departure (3:00 am) to the summit, a walk that takes 3 hrs to point Lenana (4985m) arriving at 6:30 in the morning. After sunrise, descend to Mintos Hut for full breakfast and later proceed down through the Gorges valley to Chogoria Bandas and campsite. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5. Chogoria/Nairobi
After breakfast, set on morning journey to Chogoria forest. vehicles are provided but you may walk for 10km to catch the distance,the chogoria forest is ever green,with baboo bushes that form a canopy,animals such as tropical baboons,water bucks,and bufalloes may be seen on the way.  Chogoria transport is provided back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.
