mountkenya summit circuit is the best way to acclimatize,the hikes starts from shipton camp,4200m,and climbing through the hausberg col,to lake oblong and the two tarns,to the naromoru side of mountkenya,tereki valley,gorges valley on chogoria side and mackinders valley on the sirimon side of mountkenya.through the american camp to the austrian camp,many lakes,like halis tarns,lake ellis,lake michaelson,and all the camping areas around like the american camp at the altitude of 4400m on the other side of Naromoru route,the blue tarn lake,the glaciers,the austrian camp which is the highest altitude camp in mountkenya.

The full circuit trek takes approximately 7 hours all round,with the most sunning views of the african highest mountain in kenya and the second in africa.

The summit point of this hikes reach at the highest walking point of mountkenya at the point lenana,whereby the fist night is apent through the bamboo forest,while as the second day is spent at the tropica rain forest of mountkenya.

The detailed and recommended itinerary of mountkenya hikes circuit is:

Day 1

Nairobi to judimere camp 3300m:

Transfer from nanyuki to sirimon park gate in mountkenya national park walk for 9 km to oldmoses camp.Expect 20-30 minutes for park entry formalities and then commence hike to Old Moses Camp (3300m). The trek to Old Moses Camp is through mountain forest, bamboo and rosewood, gaining 700 m elevation in 3-4 hours over 9 km. Old Moses (Judmair Camp) for dinner and overnight.

Day 2:Old moses camp or judimere 14 km trek-900m elevation-shipton camp.4200m

After the breakfast, we ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley; in this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo are seen, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. Climb out of the Likii North Valley and into the Mackinders Valley which is one of the broadest valleys on the Mountain, with many giant groundsels with good views of the main peaks. A brief stopover for picnic lunch in Mackinders Valley, then we will have 3 hours to ascend to Shipton Camp just below the main peaks of Batian and Neilon. It normally takes 7-8 hrs to get to the Shipton Camp from Old Moses Camp. On arrival we have a cup of hot coffee or tea while we wait for dinner to be served. Dinner and overnight in Shipton Camp @ 4200m.

Day 3:trekk from shipton camp 4200m-Hausberg col-to mackinders camp 4300m

Departing at 0800hrs, ascend the Hausberg col (4700m) then descend steeply to Hausberg valley and Oblong tarns before making a further steep ascent, crossing huge boulders via Two Tarn on the way to Mackinder’s camp (4,300m) which is located along the Naromoru route within the Teleki Valley. Dinner and overnight at Mackinder’s Camp (4300m)

Day 4:acclimatisation at mackinders camp,hike to american camp hike to austrian camp 4790m.

Acclimatisation day: Trek from MacKinder’s to Hut Tarn &/or Tyndall Glacier and return to austrian camp 4790m

Day 5:Early in the morning at 4 Trekking to point lenana 4987m-descend to Lake Ellis or Nithi Falls via Hall Tarns.

A slightly longer walk via Lake Ellis gives scenic views of Mugi, Ithunguni and the Giants Billiards Table

Day 6:Trek from Lake Ellis or Nithi Falls via Meru Banda’s and transfer to Chogoria town
